Favorite Indy Hangouts

How fun is it to live in Indianapolis right now? We’re getting some national recognition for being a great place to work, visit, and live...and it’s about time, right?! For those of us that have lived here for a while, we’ve seen it transition from sleepy Naptown to a bustling city with great food, sports, and music. That’s the fun thing about living in Indy right now–even if you (like me) have lived here your whole life, it feels like a new city, with new restaurants and refreshed neighborhoods popping up on literally every corner. Which is why we wanted to take some time today to share some of our favorite local hangouts! So whether you’re a born-and-raised Hoosier, or a new resident of No Mean City, here are some old and new favorites:

For When You're Hangry:

  • La Mulita - If you’ve been to SoBro’s Delicia for a special occasion, consider this your weeknight alternative. It’s affordable, has seasonal menus featuring some incredible street tacos, and has one of the best margs in the city (in my humble opinion).

  • Diavola - Another SoBro staple. Pair one of their wood-fired pizzas with a glass of wine and you’ve got yourself the perfect low-key date night!

  • Punch Bowl Social - You might only know it for its late-night fun, but Punch Bowl Social has an unbelievable brunch setup. Try their avocado toast, and grab a glass for their make-your-own bloody mary bar!

  • Patachou - We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the queen of the Indy foodie scene. Martha Hoover has sprinkled her Patachou locations across the city, but our favorite one has to be at 49th & Penn. Those checkered floors and bright windows? Can’t be beat! Grab a glass of Frosé and stay awhile.

For When You Need A Caffeine Fix:

  • Indie Coffee Roasters - This is a brand new addition to the charming Downtown Carmel area, and it couldn’t be more welcomed! The baristas are as friendly as they are knowledgeable–so ask what they recommend, they’re always coming up with new caffeinated concoctions.

  • Della Leva - Odds are you’ve seen this gorgeous coffee shop on your Instagram feed, and for a good reason! Grab a cappuccino and stay awhile to work–and while you’re at it, you might as well grab a pic in front of that flower wall, right?

  • Open Society - If you’re looking for a quiet place for an early morning meeting, look no further. This coffee shop is nestled on the quiet corner of 46th and College and serves a mean cup of joe. Try the Miel for a quick pick-me-up with a sweet twist!

  • The Well - This place is a two-for-one...coffee and a cause! From sourcing the coffee to donating the profits to worldwide communities in need, this is just a small way you can turn that caffeine habit into a good deed. Not to mention, the space is cozy as can be, with big tables for larger groups and small nooks for grinding out some solo work.

For that Free Afternoon:

  • Newfields (The Indianapolis Museum of Art) - If you’re looking for a sweet escape from the city, look no further! The $18 price tag on admission is well worth it for the access you get to floors of incredible rotating art exhibits, the sprawling Lilly gardens (be sure to check out the beer garden for seasonal snacks and drinks), and a tour of the gorgeous Lilly house. But if you’re looking for some free fun, never fear! The 100 Acres nature park is free and filled with gorgeous interactive art pieces that will keep you entertained for hours.

  • Jazz on the Monon - Grab a blanket and some lawn chairs and head to Downtown Carmel for a fun evening of jazz! And after the night winds down, walk over to Peace Water Winery to enjoy a glass with a great cause behind it.

  • Parks and Outdoors - Nothing says an Indiana summer like spending a little time outside. Whether it’s a quick hike at Holliday Park, a float on the Canal, or a day trip to the gorgeous Turkey Run State Park, there are plenty of options to get out and enjoy that Indiana summertime.

  • Festivals and Events - There’s always something fun and timely going on around town, especially during the summer! And luckily, there are plenty of sites to keep you up to date. Check out do317, Visit Indy, and EventBrite.

Ok, we could go on forever, but we’ll stop ourselves here because we want to hand over the mic to you! Where are your favorite spots to eat, drink, and play in Indy? Leave us a comment here, or over on our Instagram page! We can’t wait to hear where you like to hang.
